This open access book sheds new light on the challenges and opportunities of downstream diversification in countries rich in critical minerals. Written by leading experts, the book highlights examples of successful downstream diversification and assesses strategies and policies that can help resource-rich countries develop their downstream energy technology industries and capture more value from critical mineral resources.
The book explores various industries, including supply chains for batteries and other energy transition technologies, as well as issues such as industrial and tax policies to promote downstream diversification, infrastructure development, education and training, regulatory frameworks, and public-private partnerships. Prof. Dr. Tom Moerenhout is a Professor at Columbia University (USA), where he leads the Critical Materials Initiative of the Center on Global Energy Policy. He is also a Senior Associate at the International Institute for Sustainable Development and an Adjunct Professor at Sciences Po and NYU Stern School of Business.
Juan Carlos Jobet is a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy in New York (USA) and the Dean of the Business School at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Santiago. He is Chile’s former Minister of Energy and Mining. He holds an MBA and an MPA from Harvard University.
