This book explains how longer lifespans are reshaping the fundamentals of financial planning, health management, work, and relationships. Drawing on research from the TIAA Institute and leading partners, Surya Kolluri synthesizes evidence from retirement economics, behavioral finance, and gerontology to show why healthspan and wealthspan must keep pace with lifespan. The book introduces “longevity fitness” as a practical, research informed framework for managing four compounding risks of later life: financial risk, cognitive decline, physical decline, and social isolation, and demonstrates how these domains interact to influence well-being across the life course.Across concise, accessible chapters, readers learn how lifetime income structures support retirement security; why early detection and planning can mitigate cognitive risk and fraud; how preventive health, mobility, and fall prevention affect healthcare costs and decumulation trajectories; and how durable social ties protect both health and finances. A concluding toolkit offers an easy-to-follow checklist and actions for tracking longevity fitness, alongside summaries of key Institute studies for teaching and policy use.Written for individuals and families, as well as financial advisers, HR leaders, educators, and policymakers, this open access book bridges rigorous research and practical guidance. It offers a fresh perspective on financial planning by showing that financial security cannot be considered in isolation from physical health, cognitive well-being, and social connections. Drawing on contemporary research in longevity literacy and retirement readiness, it equips readers with an easy to follow, but comprehensive framework for making informed decisions throughout life.  In the past several decades we have succeeded in adding years to our lives, and this book is focused on helping readers to add life to those years.
