Futures-informed Evaluation
Given the complexity of social systems, characterised by multiple interacting factors, non-linear interactions and emergent phenomena, traditional evaluation methods often reach their limits. Foresight methods offer the potential to examine evaluation objects against the backdrop of short- and long-term future challenges, systematically considering the complexity of future contextual conditions.
This open access edited volume explores the integration of foresight methods into evaluations, presenting a comprehensive and systematic examination of this innovative approach. By capturing dynamic changes in evaluation objects and contexts, foresight methods enhance the validity of evaluations and provide a robust foundation for strategic decision-making. This enables the targeted adaptation of processes, organisations and initiatives to future developments.
Structured around conceptual, theoretical and methodological contributions, the volume examines fundamental concepts and systemic aspects of foresight integration while showcasing practical applications. A conceptual framework guides tailored approaches for incorporating foresight into various stages of evaluation, addressing the complexity of evaluation subjects and offering diverse opportunities for applying foresight methods within evaluations.
