Re-thinking the Middle East Regional Order
This book offers a comprehensive account of the emerging regional order in the Middle East. It investigates the continuities and changes in the post-October 7 regional order and argues that, while new fault lines, emerging powerhouses, and alliances are reshaping it, important continuities persist. The first section provides a theoretical framework for analysing the Middle East regional order. The second section focuses on the relationships between global powers – such as the U.S., Russia, China, and the EU – and the Middle East. The third section examines the roles of regional actors such as Türkiye, Israel, Iran, and Syria. The book provides a detailed analysis of historical and contemporary issues and is crucial for understanding the multifaceted challenges and opportunities in the Middle East. The target audience includes academics, researchers, and the wider public interested in gaining a deeper insight into the complexities of the Middle Eastern geopolitical landscape.
Özlem Tür is a Professor of International Relations at Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Türkiye. She is a Centre for Syrian Studies Fellow at University of St. Andrews, and a Schusterman Fellow at Brandeis. She writes and teaches on Türkiye’s relations with the Middle East, Arab-Israeli relations, and Syrian politics.
Mustafa Aydın is a Professor of International Relations at Kadir Has University, Istanbul, the President of the International Relations Council of Turkey, and a member of the Governing Board of the World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies. His areas of interest include international politics, security, and Turkish foreign policy.
