Freedom of Speech: Basis and Limits

Freedom of Speech is held to be one of the most important values in contemporary political life. Although freedom of speech has attracted many supporters, many of the philosophical issues concerning it remain unexplored. This collection of essays, first discussed at the 1985 Conference of the UK Association of Legal and Social Philosophy, sets out to examine the values which support freedom of speech and also the limits which can be rightly made on its exercise.
